I have a saying, if you want growth seek criticism not praise’. Praise makes you feel good, which is important, but criticism gives you information which you can use to improve yourself. Thankfully David’s approach is rather more professional and balanced than mine used to be. He is a proven winner and a highly credible guy.

David coached me to manage my manager’s manager. The net impact is that I add much more value to both. David’s style is one of listening and then challenging in a developmental and supportive way, rather than an aggressive one. He looks at outcomes and then ways of achieving them.
With the help and support of David my senior management team has become a senior leadership team and recognised as such within the organisation as a whole. I have seen dramatic and lasting effects on this team, the members of which are now perfoming to very high standards.
During the past year David has helped the FSA, and most particularly our executive committee, to develop a bold and thought leading strategy for regulation in the future. David structured and facilitated many meetings of our top team. In my view his facilitation skills were excellent. The timing, motive and tone of his interventions were very well judged, he kept the momentum moving forward, efficiently dealt with conflicts among the group and was very thoughtful in structuring sessions so they were serious but enjoyable. David contributed a great deal to our deliberations.
